Violin
Ashley Foong
Ashley Foong is a Singaporean violinist whose talent has earned recognition on the international stage, a Finalist at the International Arthur Rubinstein Competition and the Mediacorp Young Talent Project, with awards at the Singapore Raffles International Music Festival, the Singapore Violin Festival, and the Alessandro Giuliani Violin Competition. A Singapore National Youth Orchestra member from 2018–2023 and its concertmaster in 2023, she now performs with the Orchestra of the Music Makers, and has appeared at venues including the Esplanade, Victoria Concert Hall, and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
In 2025 she received the SOTA Music Award from the Goh Soon Tioe Centenary Fund. She is a member of the Vértice Quartet, invited to the Advanced Quartet Programme at the Singapore Chamber Festival 2026, and majors in violin performance at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory under A/P Zuo Jun.
Music education should develop both technical ability and personal expression, at the end of the day, music is communication, and every student should feel they have a voice through their playing. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel safe to make mistakes, explore ideas, and grow with confidence. I value discipline and consistency, but believe they work best when they come from motivation and curiosity, not fear, helping students build healthy practice habits, resilience, and a love of music that lasts beyond exams.
