Advanced Music Studies

Listening, analysis, and context for DSA, MEP, and conservatory preparation. Available as a group course or one-to-one.

Advanced Music Studies at Sonora

Music is far more than the performance of notes on a page. It is a language through which people communicate ideas, emotions, cultures, stories, and identities. We believe every student can learn to listen actively, think critically, and engage meaningfully with music, regardless of their prior background.

Through guided listening, analytical thinking, and contextual understanding, students develop not only musical knowledge but creativity, curiosity, and cultural awareness.

What lessons cover

01

Core technical areas

Lessons develop elements of music, style recognition, contextual study, and critical listening, with close, steady attention to music listening, analytical thinking, contextual understanding, written musical communication, and aural recognition.

02

Methods & repertoire

Designed to complement and extend the GCE O-Level Music syllabus, the course strengthens listening, analysis, contextual understanding, and written communication. Rather than focusing on performance alone, it equips students to understand how music works, why it sounds the way it does, and how composers, performers, producers, and cultures use music to communicate meaning.

Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.
