Junior Academy at Sonora

Every child is inherently musical and capable of developing a strong foundation when given an engaging, nurturing, and joyful environment. At an early age, music should be experienced through exploration, creativity, movement, and play.

Designed for beginners aged 4 to 7, this class draws on fundamental principles of music to nurture musical thinking through play, movement, and social interaction.

What lessons cover

01

Core technical areas

Lessons develop rhythm, pitch, aural development, and movement and musical expression, with close, steady attention to note values through rhythm-clapping games, body percussion and call-and-response, whole-body response to tempo and dynamics, and speech, movement, and elemental percussion.

02

Methods & repertoire

Following Kodály's sequence of rhythmic learning, the Dalcroze Eurhythmics approach to the body as the primary instrument, and the Orff approach to music through play. Early music literacy emerges from joyful, active engagement rather than rote instruction, and students come to view music as a meaningful form of communication for life.
