Cello

Lev Aleev

Lev Aleev is a Ukrainian cellist and educator completing his Bachelor of Music at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory under Professor Qin Li-Wei, having previously studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the National School of Music in Sofia, in a pedagogical lineage that traces back to Rostropovich, Starker, and Navarra. He has taught since the age of sixteen, and during the 2024 to 2025 season served as Principal Cello of the State Opera of Stara Zagora in Bulgaria.

As a soloist and chamber musician he has performed at the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Pablo Casals Forum at Kronberg Academy, and Musiikkitalo Helsinki, and he plays a rare 1853 Antonio Guadagnini cello entrusted to him by the Rin Collection.

Inspired by the artistic legacy of my pedagogical lineage, I view cello teaching as the continuation of a deeply rooted tradition of excellence, responsibility, and expressive freedom. Technical mastery and artistic individuality are not opposing goals but inseparable aspects of a meaningful musical life. I strive to create an environment where students feel both challenged and supported, where precision is cultivated without fear and musical imagination is encouraged from the very beginning.
