Cello

Youjia Chen

Youjia Chen is a cellist whose musical journey bridges the cultures of China and Singapore. Born in China, she moved to Singapore at ten, where her passion for the cello took root under the tutelage of Wang Yan of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, who gave her a strong technical and musical foundation.

A former member of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, she also explored chamber music through quartet work with Kids' Philharmonic. She now works as a freelance musician with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra while furthering her artistry at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory under the internationally acclaimed cellist Professor Li-Wei Qin.

My teaching is rooted in the belief that technical mastery and artistic expression are inseparable. I guide students to build a solid foundation through mindful practice, while always connecting technique back to the music's emotional core. I encourage curiosity, disciplined listening, and self-reflection, empowering each student to find their own authentic voice, so that the sensitivity cultivated through music enriches everything they do.
